Consultation for Therapists

secure online consultation for therapists and other helping professionals to identify the causes and mitigate the impact of burnout and compassion fatigue, and maintain well-being beyond the job, for clients in Portland, Oregon

Are you having that tell-tale fantasy of quitting your job and working at a bookstore/coffee shop/bed and breakfast?

Maybe your workload is spilling in to your off hours, or you're no longer able to shut it off like you could before. You might be drained, unable to manage your workload, or simply feeling more frustrated, annoyed or irritable when you're on the clock.

Whatever it is that you're experiencing, you're beginning to notice the impact everywhere:

  • You can't manage your time at work as well, you can't finish documentation, or you find yourself forgetting details and getting information mixed up

  • The Sunday Scaries are becoming unmanageable

  • You notice more "checking out" behaviors in your off-time: doom scrolling, online shopping, going out more or ordering in more

  • You feel like you're not as skilled or effective with your clients, leading to a decreased sense of satisfaction in your work

  • You feel more dull, disconnected and inactive in your life outside of work

Support for burnout can help

It may feel like you'll never get back to 100%, but you can feel more grounded, supported and balanced. I can help you get there. â€‹

Here's what we can do, helper:

  • Identify key catalysts which may be impacting your work: what kind of setting are you in, how long have you been there, what administrative or collegial supports are in place to help you thrive

  • We can work together to establish key areas of burnout that you're experiencing, and where they're showing up in your life

  • Together we'll slow down as much as possible, remove barriers to healing, and work on incorporating proven coping strategies to mitigate the worst of your burnout

  • From there, we'll identify those aspects of life that can change and where you can make incremental positive and supportive shifts

  • Lastly, we'll take stock of what cannot change and help you find new ways to feel autonomous, supported, and able to use your agency to find more personal power

I can help because I've been there. My approach to helping other helpers comes from a place of having done the work myself to create a more supportive and sustainable life. I believe helping professionals have unique work circumstances that cause us to feel isolated, overworked, and under-resourced.

You don't have to feel like a failure anymore, I can help you feel more calm, peaceful and joyful.

Feeling unsure?
FAQ's

Q: What are sessions like?

A: Our sessions will fall somewhere between therapy and supervision, and will maintain the limits and protections of confidentiality. Helpers need a confidential place to go to be heard in their unique struggles. I found in my own search that I needed to get specific feedback about how to make my work feel more bearable, and that needed to happen outside of a supervision setting where I was required to talk about client issues exclusively.

Q: How long do I need to see you?

A: It depends. My hope is that working together helps you feel like yourself again, and that you have an identity outside your work. Working together will help you feel more empowered to make necessary changes to have a sustainable work-life balance.

Q: Is this a replacement for therapy? For supervision?

A: This particular support could be instead of therapy or in addition to therapy if needed, though it is not a replacement for supervision in terms of licensing hours.

Q: How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

A: I am a relational therapist interested in the impact of our work lives on our long-term well-being. I work from expertise in broader cultural and historical trends in work, therapy, and capitalism, as well as your individual lived experience to understand how our work is most impactful and harmful to you. I tend to be experiential, curious, and non-directive in sessions and open to what's happening in the session. If you're looking for a didactic, directive and sequential model of treatment I'm likely not the right fit.

Q: How do we get started?

A: Reach out. We'll do a free initial consultation to explore what led you to searching for burnout/compassion fatigue/general work exhaustion support, an
